Edible Earth Farm was founded by April Parker [pictured below] in 2010. It started as a micro-farm on five acres. In 2011, Johnny Parker joined his wife at the farm full-time. Every year the farm expanded. In 2016, the farm was spread across five properties in Tionesta, PA and was a challenge to manage. In 2017, the Parker's purchased a larger farm in Mercer County. Edible Earth Farm is now located in Sandy Lake, Pennsylvania and is a highly diversified fruit, vegetable and livestock operation situated on almost 90 acres. Edible Earth Farm raises vegetables, herbs, ginger, fruit and pastured pigs, chickens, goats and beef. They are located 68 miles north of Pittsburgh and 50 miles south of Erie near Lake Wilhelm and Goddard State Park. They have been certified organic since day one! They also source and sell through the West Penn Farm Alliance.

Edible Earth Farm's CSA is founded on the key principles of Quality, Choice, Connection and Innovation.

Quality

Harvesting and holding processes are strict and ridged with an emphasis on preserving the longevity of the crops produced. Most items are harvested within a few days of delivery. Crops are processed and managed in a modern food safe processing facility custom made for Edible Earth Farm.

Choice

Edible Earth Farm pioneered the technology behind the Full Choice CSA program. It was the first farm in Western PA to offer its members the option to choose every item for the Main Season CSA. It's like a virtual farmers market. Choice CSA members choose from what's available and the farm custom packs their delivery.

Connection

Edible Earth Farm is deeply invested in building connections with its members. Members get access to private groups and feeds where intimate behind the scene photos and stories are shared. Members receive newsletters where the farm's season, struggles and successes are articulated. Members also get access to private, on-farm events.

Innovation

The farm is proud to pioneer improvements in direct-to-consumer services, logistics and organic farming techniques. The farm managers are constantly working to improve and optimize the production and delivery of fresh organic food, all with an eye toward impact reduction techniques and sustainability.

The Founders

Farm Founders April and Johnny

Johnny and April grew up in the rich farming communities of Central Pennsylvania. They moved to Pittsburgh after April graduated from Penn State. While living in Pittsburgh, they became involved in the local food movement and began to plot the return to their farming roots.

After moving to Pittsburgh, April pursued a career in social services. She worked for several agencies in and around the Pittsburgh area and managed teams of Case Workers and Researchers. During that time, April continued her education in the areas of herbalism and aromatherapy. She incorporates her knowledge into the farm and its products.

Johnny spent his teenage years working on an organic farm after school, on the weekends and during his Summer breaks. Before moving to Pittsburgh, he had a stint working at a French restaurant and learned under the chef and owner. After moving to Pittsburgh with April, he pursued an education and career in computer science and software engineering. Before leaving to farm, Johnny was the Director of IT at Carnegie Mellon University.

The Community

Customer and April, the Farm Founder and Owner

People from all walks of life are encouraged to join. They welcome everyone as a member of their program. They seek out members who are kind, tolerant, enjoy fresh food and value community. If you have most of these traits, then you'll love your experience as a member of Edible Earth Farm. The farm encourages you to join, share and enjoy the harvest.

Edible Earth Farm helps to feed some of the communities in Western PA by donating food to pantries, food banks and families in need. Supporting the farm through membership helps to make these contributions possible.
